Sudden change to slide show display/presenter view greyed out.
Hi Michelle,
Do you mean the "Use Presenter View" option under "SLIDE SHOW" tab on the ribbon is greyed out for you?
When you are in the "Slide Show" mode, please try to right click on the slide and see if you can select the "Show Presenter View" from the context menu.
Have you ever made any changes to your computer recently? You might want to try installing any required updates, including updating your graphic card driver to the latest version, then try again.

It's recommended to download and install Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) , which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office programs.

Think Outside The Slide
Fix PowerPoint Presenter View displaying the slides on the wrong screen
The problem.
You are using PowerPoint Presenter View with your laptop and an external screen. You want the slides to show on the external screen and Presenter View on your laptop screen so you can see your notes and look at the webcam. But PowerPoint insists on putting the slides on the laptop and Presenter View on the external screen.

The solution in Windows (for Mac see below the video)
In PowerPoint, go to the Slide Show ribbon. In the Monitors section you set which monitor displays the Slide Show (not which monitor displays Presenter View). Use the drop-down list to select your external monitor.

Now when you start the Slide Show, the slides will appear on the external monitor and Presenter View will display on your laptop screen.

Here’s a video that demonstrates this solution.
The solution for Mac users
The drop down to choose the screen for the slides is in the Set Up Show dialog that is accessed on the Slide Show ribbon. Here’s what that looks like.

1 or 2 screens? Teams, Zoom, or Webex? Windows or Mac?

Using two monitors whilst presenting a Microsoft PowerPoint slide show
When giving a PowerPoint presentation, you may want to be able to see your speaker notes on screen though you don’t want them visible to the audience. This is possible if you have two monitors available to you.
In Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 or Microsoft PowerPoint 2010:
Open the PowerPoint presentation. On the Slide Show tab, in the Monitors group, click Use Presenter View .

The Display Properties dialog box opens. If the Use this device as the primary monitor box has a tick in it and it is greyed out, then the monitor is the primary monitor. To use a different monitor as the primary monitor, click on its icon and tick the Use this device as the primary monitor box. Click the monitor icon for the audience’s monitor, and then select the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor check box. Click OK .
On the Slide Show tab, in the Set Up group, click Set Up Slide Show . The Set Up Show dialog box opens.

In the Multiple monitors section, select the required options, then click OK .
You can now see the slides with speaker notes on one screen and the slide show itself on the other.

Why would the presenter view option be greyed out in slide show s.

I have a laptop with Windows 2000 and multiple monitors available. However when I try to setup the slide show in Powerpoint 2003 the presenter view option is greyed out. Does this mean that there is no way for me to use the presenter view or do I need to change some settings?

Do you have a second monitor attached? Have you also adjusted your display settings to extend your desktop to the second monitor? Presenters View will be grayed out unless the settings are made. See: Dual monitors and PowerPoint (by Paul Iordanides) (and others) http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00231.htm A Multiple Monitor Tutorial by PowerPoint MVP Chirag Dalal http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00476.htm

Is it possible that I don't have true multiple monitor capabilities? I have to use clone to project a slide show onto a second screen. When clone is in effect and I look at the Display Settings tab there is only one monitor showing and I do not have the option of extending my desktop to a second monitor. If I don't have true dual monitor capabilities, is there any way to add it?
You have multiple monitor capability if you are running Windows 2000, but you also have to have a secondary video port on your graphics card or have a second graphics card. If you only have the ability to "clone" then you don't have dual monitors.
Thank you for the clarification. I was going nuts trying to figure it out!

Gray is a flexible neutral color that can be paired with both cool and warm tones. To add warmth, pair gray with pinks and yellows. A stylish look can be achieved by adding blues and greens.
Gray is made by mixing black and white. While black and white are technically not colors – black is a shade, while white is a tint – mixing the two in equal amounts yields a medium gray. No two pure colors can be mixed to make gray.
Gray is considered neutral and is complementary with any other color. Gray functions in a way that is similar to black and white when it comes to complementing other colors. Technically speaking, complementary colors are those positioned op...
