On Glued To My Crafts , you will notice a lot of my kid crafts have been involving paper plates and tissue paper .
Why – you might ask? Because those are supplies that ANYONE can purchase and they are cheap when it comes to kid crafts. If you shop at a place like Dollar Tree , you can score paper plates and tissue paper for only a dollar and it will last you awhile.
While there – grab some school glue & construction paper and you are set for crafts with your child. I promise you – I make it easy and you have no excuse not to!
So for today’s weekend post, I’m sharing this paper plate “ Monkey In A Tree ” craft. I always call my son my little monkey and that’s really what inspired the craft in the first place. If you have a monkey themed story book to go along with this craft, you can make this into an afternoon event with reading and craft time.
If you don’t want to do the monkey part – this also can be altered a bit to just make a tree with apples/cherries on it. The goal is to get your child’s brain going and set off the inspiration!

PAIR YOUR MONKEY CRAFT WITH —> Handprint Monkey Keepsake
Craft Supplies:
- Large Paper Plate – one per tree craft
- Green Tissue Paper
- Brown Cardstock Paper
- White School Glue
- Kid Friendly Craft Scissors
- Cute Kid With Hands
- Pencil or Pen
- Small Wiggle Eyes – two per tree craft
- Hand-Held Office Stapler
Directions:
- First cut up your green tissue paper into 2×2″ squares.
- Next, put a good layer of school glue all over the paper plate.
- Have your child cover the paper plate with their tissue paper.
- Set aside to let it dry.
- While that is drying, you will want to do their handprint for the monkey part. Simply trace your child’s hand on the brown cardstock and trim it out.
- Add a monkey head and face cutout to the pinky of the handprint, to bring it to life {use our picture as an example!} Don’t forget those wiggle eyes so he can see!
- At this in time, you should also cut out the tree trunk out of the remaining brown cardstock.
- To finish the Monkey In Tree craft, glue {or staple} the monkey to the tree and staple a tree trunk to the paper plate.
- Then display proudly for all to see!

- 1 Large Paper Plate
- Green Tissue Paper
- Brown Cardstock Paper
- 2 Wiggle Eyes
Instructions:
- First cut up your green tissue paper into 2x2" squares.
